Art in Print recently published an article on Sandow Birk about his work the American Qur'an and The Depravities of War. Benjamin Levy explores the connections of post-9/11 America and the Iraqi war through the lens of Birk's reinterpretation of the Qur'an and Jacques Callot’s Les Misères et les Malheurs de la Guerre (The Miseries and Misfortunes of War).

The Depravities of War was created in collaboration with Paul Mullowney at Hui Press in Hawaii in 2007. There are monumental 15 relief prints in the series, each measuring in at 48" x 96" and hand printed on sekishu paper.
