Date: July 13-14, 2024, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 pm | Presenter: Rhianna Gallagher

Developed in the 19th century and still very popular with artists today, cyanotype is a 19th century photo process utilizing hand painted emulsion which yields beautiful dark blue images on paper or fabric.

This workshop will explore the many options available in the versatile, forgiving, and nontoxic medium of cyanotype. We will start by exploring a brief history of the medium and examples of artists working with cyanotype.  Throughout the weekend there will be demonstrations of the many possibilities of cyanotype, including: the importance of the brush stroke in hand painted emulsion on fabric or paper, printing with objects laid directly on the paper as photograms, using digital negatives made from photographic images, bleaching, as well as toning and adding other media to prints post exposure and development.

Students will be encouraged to explore any area of the process that interests them, while working with the aid of the instructor to make a small group of cyanotypes using both digital negatives and photograms.
