Pressure Printing

$165.00

Date: July 12, 2024, 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 pm | Presenter: Macy Chadwick

A one day printmaking workshop for artists and printmakers who wish to learn new skills on the letterpress. Led by printer and book artist, Macy Chadwick.

Pressure printing is a unique alternative to incorporating imagery into letterpress prints. Its signature look is a soft image with all-over tone and a white glow around the shapes. The process uses a flexible plate made from layered collage of paper, tape, glue or other textures. This collage is printed on the letterpress; more layers translate into more pressure and will print dark; fewer layers create less pressure and will print lighter.

In this workshop, Macy will demonstrate how to create a low-relief collage image, and how to use this collage to print on the letterpress. Participants will have a chance to experiment with a variety of image-making materials, and create beautiful atmospheric prints as complete images or to use in future prints and books.

Price includes printing paper, plate materials, rags solvents, chemicals, inks. Participants are encouraged to bring textured materials to experiment with including textured fabrics, papers with raised patterns, mesh, string, doll clothes, lace, shaped stickers, etc.
