Storm Tharp was born and raised in the stunning natural environment of Eastern, Oregon, and based in Portland, Storm Tharp has developed his work while traveling, living, and working around the world. He received his BFA in 1992 from the College of Architecture, Art, and Urban Planning at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, after studying architecture at the Palazzo Massimo in Rome, Italy (1991 ). Tharp’s paintings, sculptures, and works on paper address the human figure, nature, and social space, from deeply personal and historical perspectives. Tharp returned to the US in 2021, after three years living and maintaining a studio in Tokyo, Japan One-person exhibitions of Tharp’s work have taken place at numerous museums and galleries, including: Koki Arts, Tokyo;  the Herbert F. Johnson Museum, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY; the Schneider Museum of Art, Ashland, OR; Galerie Bertrand, Geneva, Switzerland; POX CONTEMPORARY ART, Portland, OR; Feldbuschweisner, Berlin, Germany; and Nicole Klagsbrun, NY, NY among others. Group exhibitions include: Dorian, Rereading Oscar Wilde (curated by Stephanie Snyder), Cooley Gallery Reed College, Portland, OR; Up Close & Personal, Whatcom Museum, Bellingham, WA; Tomorrow, Tomorrow (curated by Stephanie Snyder and Wallace Whitney), CANADA, NY; Doomtown, and High House (curated by Kristan Kennedy) Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, Portland, OR; American Genre: Contemporary Painting (curated by Michelle Grabner), Institute of Contemporary Art, Portland, ME; Whitney Biennial 2010 (curated by Francesco Bonami and Gary Carrion-Murayari), Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Storm Tharp’s work is held in numerous public and private collections. Public collections include: Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY; Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH; Portland Art Museum, Portland, OR; Herbert F.
