GATHER:MAKE:SHELTER PARTNERSHIP

Mullowney Printing and Gather:Make:Shelter, a Portland-based organization that creates opportunities for people experiencing houselessness and poverty through collaborative, skill-building projects in the arts, have partnered to offer a series of immersive printmaking workshops to eleven GMS project participants. Watch the video below to learn more about this collaboration from the perspective of GMS Artist and program participant, Tonnisha.

Through monthly sessions in our Portland studio, artists have developed self-directed print projects with guidance from master and assistant printers at Mullowney Printing and Gather:Make:Shelter staff. Under the mentorship of our teams, participants have explored a variety of printmaking techniques, culminating in a striking portfolio of prints for the exhibition titled Impressions from the Collective.

Impressions of the Collective
was an expansive exhibition spanning two locations. The exhibition featured a limited edition portfolio of eleven etchings and a compelling short film illuminating the deep relationships built throughout the year between Mullowney Printing and Gather:Make:Shelter.

Impressions from the Collective
The Monograph Project – Series No. 7

Designed by GMS’s own Brenda Bingham, Impressions From The Collective offers an inside look at the creative collaboration between GMS and Mullowney Printing Co. Over the span of a year, 11 GMS artists engaged in intensive printmaking workshops, exploring a range of techniques under the expert mentorship of master printers Paul Mullowney and Kathy Kuehn. The result is a richly layered publication that captures the spirit, process, and artistry of this unique partnership.

This program is funded through Mullowney Printing’s Undergrowth Educational Print Fund (UEPF). UEPF began in 2021 with the mission to support and nurture artists’ careers as printmakers and practicing studio artists. This program offers enriching opportunities for artists working in traditional print media to expand their technical skills and knowledge base through learning experiences in a professional print studio.
